Fernandez, who had departed in seventh place after the short program held on Wednesday, rallied posts to get fourth place and 168.30 points in the free program held this Saturday in the Canadian city of London.

The skater Madrid scratched the Japanese Yuzuru Hanyu bronze to obtain a total score of 249.06 points awarded in addition to the medal, two Olympic spots for the Spanish Federation of Ice Sports (FEDH) for 2014 Sochi Games.

At 21, Fernandez continues to expand its legend as it has once again made an epic comeback despite not having completed a flawless long program. Still, his unquestionable quality has earned four seats and podium.

Only five points separated Fernandez reigning Europe , the third position after the Short Program, but the Spaniard had the trick of his quad.

The Spanish Olympic first in over half a century in the men's skating his long program completed with 168.30 points to take the lead in the table (249.06). Only the top two Short Program, Canada's Patrick Chan (277.78) and Kazakh Denis Ten (266.48) were able to overcome it.

Fernandez's third place awarded to Spain for the first time the presence of two male skaters to the competition in the Olympics, which is equal representation of Vancouver 2010.

These two places could join those of Sonia Lafuente in the women and Sara Hurtado and Adria Diaz in dance, that in the coming hours will contest the long program.

Javier Fernandez, who trains in Toronto under the direction of Brian Orser, continues to make history. Last January in Zagreb won the individual gold medal and has now reached the podium in a World Cup.

Local hero Canadian Patrick Chan, had to fight to win the gold medal of the competition and defeat the Kazakh Denis Ten despite starting with a considerable lead after the short program. Chan made a masterful performance in the short program on Wednesday that ended with his best mark of all time, 98.37 compared with 91.56 points obtained by Ten.

This time, it was the turn to Ten for a great show on the ice of London and getting 174.92 points, its best performance in the free program, ahead of 169.41 points Chan. But the effort was insufficient and Chan Tenge won his third consecutive gold in the World Championships with 267, 78 266, 48 points against the Ten.
